A third generation of tools for business intelligence emerges. In the big data movement, these new solutions, which are called Diwo, Peak, Sisu Data or Tellius, also respond to the difficulty of ingesting ever more numerous, heterogeneous and complex data. Unlike a human, their algorithms can sift through a mountain of information and extract the essential marrow. Decision intelligence also promises to recommend factual, objective and rational decisions. It can even potentially automate certain processes and make simple decisions on its own, from optimizing sales to managing talent and reducing attrition rates.

Cloverpop, the pioneer

Founded in 2012 in San Francisco, Cloverpop pioneered the business intelligence market. Substantially different from the solutions that have since emerged, its offer called Decision Bank is user-centric. Using interactive decision trees, it is up to the decision maker to define the issues to be resolved, the key information to be taken into account and the factors leading to the decision. Guides called Decision Playbooks list the company’s best practices, methods and processes.

Decision Bank memorizes past decisions and the results obtained. Its AI platform, D-Sight, simultaneously leverages market research data to inform decisions. Cloverpop integrates with team messaging Microsoft Teams and Slack to make decisions directly from users’ workflows. The publisher targets large groups operating in the consumer goods, finance, pharmaceutical and technology sectors. He has raised just over $9 million to date.

Peak, AI accessible to professions

Founded in 2015 in Manchester, UK, Peak is the only European player in this selection. Dedicated to sales, marketing and supply chain optimization, its business intelligence platform consists of four components. Dock provides the tools to ingest and transform data. Factory is a development platform dedicated to analysts and data scientists. Work is aimed at decision-makers. It aims to make AI accessible and guide decision-making by “bringing out insights, recommendations, and predictions interactively and visually.”

Finally, the library brings together a suite of ready-to-use AI applications. The user can also create his own by adding blocks like a Lego. Peak has forged partnerships with AWS (its offer uses more than 50 Amazon cloud services including the SageMaker machine learning platform). But also with Snowflake for the data warehouse part. The British start-up has raised $119 million since its creation.

Sisu Data, for predictive analysis

Sisu Data was founded in 2018 in San Francisco on the basis of several years of research at Stanford University during which its platform was tested with Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Tesla. It relies on the contributions of statistical analysis and machine learning to analyze the factors of change in data patterns, detect anomalies and identify trends. The latest version of the solution, released in August 2022, further strengthens its predictive component.

Designed above all to optimize the customer experience and “augment” sales and marketing functions, its decision-making intelligence engine makes it possible, among other things, to reduce churn by anticipating the risks of a customer leaving. Sisu Data has forged partnerships with Google Cloud and AWS to simplify the automated exploitation of data from the platforms of both providers. It also offers connectors for Looker, Tableau and Embed.ly. Since its creation, the start-up has raised nearly $130 million.

Tellius, a natural language search engine

Founded in 2016 in Virginia, Tellius is the sole publisher of this comparative to be included in Gartner’s magic quadrant, as a “visionary”. Its actionable intelligence platform provides proactive alerts on significant changes in key metrics and insights. It also offers a natural language search interface, allowing users to ask questions about their business or operational data.

Upstream, Tellius offers tools to connect to different sources in the cloud or on-premise and to prepare data before processing. The start-up targets both SMEs and large accounts in fields as varied as financial services, insurance, retail, health or the pharmaceutical industry. Tellius has partnered with all three hyperscalers, as well as Looker, Snowflake, and Databricks. Gartner praises Tellius’ ability to address both data scientists and end users and the scalability of its platform, whose architecture is based on Apache Spark.

Diwo, the youngest

Diwo is the latest in the emerging business intelligence market. Located in the United States in Northville, Michigan, the publisher announced the general availability of its platform in July 2022. It is based on patented technology combining AI and contextual intelligence. Self-learning, she improves over time her understanding of the business challenges of an organization to refine her recommendations.

Diwo responds to two main use cases: optimizing inventory and supply chain management on the one hand, and customer loyalty and optimizing marketing campaigns on the other. Its platform can either be deployed on one of the three major public clouds (AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud) or on a private cloud. Diwo primarily targets large Fortune 1000 groups with large data warehouses and data science teams.
