After several years of all kinds of teasing, it’s finally here. The Mercedes-AMG One was unveiled on Wednesday June 1, 2022, on the occasion of the fifty-fifth anniversary of the Affalterbach firm. The two-seater hybrid hypercar is presented in its definitive production version, homologated for the road. Derived from Formula 1, this ultimate AMG sits on a monocoque chassis and sports a carbon fiber body.

And history that the Mercedes-AMG One is the most efficient possible, its design promotes aerodynamics. The spherical cockpit is placed very forward and is associated with large wheel arches, a low hood hollowed out by air intakes, or even doors opening obliquely forwards and upwards. At the rear, a take-off edge and diffuser are combined with a two-piece deployable spoiler. The exhaust ends in a large round outlet and two additional small outlets.

The appearance of this Mercedes-AMG One is also distinguished by the ten-spoke forged wheels and the airbrushed star motif on its body. The car is 4.576 meters long, 2.01 meters wide and 1.261 meters high. Its wheelbase is set at 2.72 meters. Countless air intakes are present in various places of its body. Perched on the roof, one of them is inspired by Formula 1 and allows the engine to draw in fresh air “according to its needs”. It merges into the black vertical fin and thus forms a real shark fin.

The Mercedes-AMG One also benefits from a hydraulically controlled active aerodynamics system. The driver can configure three aerodynamic modes, dubbed Highway, Track and Race DRS. If the first is, as its name suggests, intended for traffic on the open road, the other two are dedicated to circuit driving. They make it possible to deploy or retract fins, a deflector and slats, but also to lower the car.

With more than 1,000 hp, it exceeds 350 km/h

Installed in a central position, the engine of this Mercedes-AMG One is a hybrid V6 composed of a 1.6 turbo petrol unit and four electric units. Capable of reaching 11,000 rpm, the engine develops no less than 1,063 hp! And according to Mercedes-Benz, it is impossible to calculate the torque “due to the complexity of the driveline”. Combined with a 4Matic+ variable all-wheel drive and a seven-speed automated manual gearbox, the engine allows this hypercar to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, from 0 to 200 km/h in 7 seconds. , from 0 to 300 km/h in 15.6 and reaching a top speed set at 352 km/h. To stop the cavalry, high-performance composite ceramic brakes are installed.

Hybridization obliges, this impressive engine is connected to a high-performance 8.4 kWh battery which allows the car to enjoy an electric range of 18.1 kilometres. “Charging is done by alternating current and by the integrated 3.7 kW on-board charger”, specifies Mercedes-AMG. The sports branch of Mercedes-Benz has also tried to reduce fuel consumption and pollutant emissions as much as possible by specifically adjusting turbocharging and directed jet direct injection for this purpose.

“Added to this is a very complex and efficient exhaust gas purification system with four preheated metallic catalysts, two ceramic catalysts and two petrol particulate filters”, specifies the brand. An innovative direct cooling system aims to keep the battery at an optimal temperature by circulating a “high-tech” coolant around its cells. The interest? Making the battery “light and compact” and therefore maximizing performance. The car still weighs almost 1,700 kilos on the scale.

The upholstery is mainly made of magma gray Nappa leather and black Dinamica microfibre. At the wheel of the Mercedes-AMG One, the driver has the choice between six driving modes.

Presented at the Goodwood Festival of Speed from June 23 to 26, 2022, the Mercedes-AMG One is marketed for 2.7 million euros. According to our colleagues from Auto-Moto, the 275 copies produced have already all been sold.
