This metaverse has found an alternative to passwords

The Aftermath Islands metaverse advocates abandoning usernames and passwords. To connect to an online digital world, this metaverse has instead implemented a facial recognition system on the blockchain.

Aftermath Islandsone of many metaverse based on the blockchain, has just launched Liquid Avatar, a mobile application that replaces traditional usernames and passwords. To verify a user’s identity, this metaverse usesa facial recognition system decentralized on blockchain, the distributed ledger technology behind most cryptocurrencies. Concretely, the system compares the player’s face to biometric information stored on the blockchain.

“It eliminates the need for username and passwords, using verified biometrics instead”says Aftermath Islands in its press release.

No need for a password in the future metaverse?

According to Aftermath Islands, the system is called the Proof of humanity, or Proof of humanity. Facial recognition takes place directly on the blockchain with the support of smart contracts. There is no central entity responsible for comparing the data provided. Aftermath Islands does not need to capture players’ biometric information to recognize them. The blockchain ensures that highly sensitive data, such as biometric information, is not collected by malicious actors.

The tool also allows companies to ensure that a user is a real human being, not a computer program, without collecting government-issued identification, such as a passport, or proof of residency. Again, the system prevents sensitive information from ending up in the wrong hands. Additionally, Liquid Avatar eliminates the risk of fraud by preventing a malicious actor from creating a fake account in another individual’s name.

The player who wants to verify their identity must first install the Liquid Avatar app on their Android smartphone or iPhone. The application will scan the user’s face and encode this information on the blockchain. A digital identity document will then be transmitted on the network. It is thanks to this certificate that the player can then connect and enter the metaverse of Aftermath Islands. If the blockchain certificate serves as an identifier, the user’s face serves as an alternative to the traditional password.

An identity card on the blockchain to connect to the metaverse

Ultimately, Aftermath Islands has developed a form of digital ID card for the metaverse. Ultimately, the firm wants Liquid Avatar to be compatible with other metaverses available on the web. In mirror of Metaverse Standards Foruma coalition of actors working for an open metaverse, Aftermath Islands believes that interoperability is essential to the development of virtual worlds.

To connect to any digital world, it would then be possible to rely on a single digital certificate on the blockchain. Stored on the blockchain, users’ personal data will be censorship-resilient, tamper-proof and immutable. No entity will be able to alter this information or take it over.

“By using blockchain-based identification systems, you can ensure that a single user has only one account”adds Aftermath Islands.

Asked by our colleagues at VentureBeatDavid Lucatch, managing director of Aftermath Islands, believes that this technology, which has been in development for six years, will improve privacy in the metaverse and facilitate exchanges between Internet users. The Proof of Humanity indeed offers the guarantee that an interlocutor in the metaverse is a real human being… just like in the real world.

With metvers, we have an opportunity to fix the failures of previous iterations of the internet that failed to protect privacy and data and ensure that only real people come to an online space.” , argues David Lucatch.
