Despite the drop in interest in the NFT market in recent times, several tech companies continue to develop the uses of the technology on different media. After computers and smartphones, non-fungible tokens are increasingly appearing on televisions. LG, the electronics giant presented an application integrating NFT functionalities for smart TV.

LG launches its NFT platform for certain televisions

If we are used to using its famous digital certificates on PCs or smartphones, it is however less common to encounter NFT technology on your TV. However, more and more television manufacturers are moving towards this type of service, after the speculative bubble that we experienced around Virtual Art in the form of NFT.

After Samsung, it is the turn of another TV market leader to invest in this new technology. LG, known for its OLED televisions, intends to offer features related to NFTs. The South Korean electronics behemoth wants to offer this type of innovation, not on one of their models, but on several of their smart TVs.

All this will be possible thanks to a new application compatible with several connected TVs. To respond to the competition, LG is launching “LG Art Lab”, a platform on which it is possible to consult a catalog of several digital works in the form of NFTs.

Currently, the app seems to offer fairly light content and has few users. In full development, the platform is only available in the United States on LG televisions running the webOS 5.0 operating system.

As for the LG Art Lab catalog, the brand intends to develop it gradually by adding new NFT collections each month. In order to establish itself permanently in the field, LG has already programmed offers and events dedicated to NFTs. The release of several editions of NFT resulting from a collaboration with the artist sculptor Barry X Ball has also been announced for September 22nd.

LG offers the purchase of NFT on TV

Beyond being able to observe and display its NFTs, through this platform, it is possible in particular to buy a non-fungible token directly via TV. To do this, simply scan a QR code with your phone to obtain the work associated with it. Once the QR has been scanned, the Wallypto application launches on your phone to validate the transaction.

Wallypto is simply LG’s signature crypto wallet. In short, LG offers an end-to-end in-house buying process, which is rare enough to notice. Indeed, most of the major players who are entering the web3 universe generally call on several companies specializing in the crypto ecosystem to benefit from adapted solutions.

At the moment, the wallet and the platform run on Hedera, a cryptocurrency based on Hashgraph – a competing technology to the blockchain considered to be faster and scalable. This choice is surprising since the majority of large collections operate on Ethereum or Solana blockchains.

This announcement echoes similar features offered by Samsung brand TVs, presented last April. By integrating NFT on televisions, these brands tend to democratize this recent technology. A wise choice since to exhibit digital works, sometimes animated, televisions seem to be a good option.
