A crypto-smartphone has just been born. Designed by Osom and Solana, the phone makes it possible to make cryptocurrency payments and easily create NFTs.
Solana Labs, the company behind the Solana cryptocurrency, has just announced the launch of its own Android smartphone. Called Saga, the phone was unveiled at a conference in New York.
The device was designed in collaboration with Osom, the brand born from the ashes of Essential, the start-up of Andy Rubin, one of the founding fathers of Android. The firm had long announced the arrival of its first phone, the OV1. The project eventually evolved into the Saga.
OSOM is thrilled to partner with @Solana to produce the Saga, a flagship Android mobile phone with unique functionality and features tightly integrated with the Solana blockchain.

A suite of Web 3.0 oriented Android applications
The Saga smartphone aims to facilitate navigation within Web 3.0, the future decentralized version of the Internet, and Solana ecosystem services. The device will ship by default a suite of Android applications developed by Solana Mobile, a subsidiary of Solana Labs.
Among the key features are Solana Pay, a solution that allows mobile payments to be made using the Solana blockchain. The service is able to “generate virtual cards” to make contactless payments in cryptocurrencies.
The phone also includes Seed Vault, a secure storage solution. This system keeps the private keys and passwords of digital wallets outside of the Android operating system. The keys are thus safe from hackers.
The Saga will also benefit from a decentralized application store, the Solana dApp Store. Essential to the operation of Web 3.0, these applications are based on the blockchain and allow the user to free themselves from trusted third parties. Unsurprisingly, we will also find the Play Store, Google’s app store.
Saga users will be able to create an NFT ” anywhere anytime ” directly from their smartphone. To register a digital work on the Solana blockchain, it will be enough to use one of the services integrated by default by the developers. The telephone will also make life easier for Internet users who play web 3.0 video games on Solana and who trade on decentralized platforms.
At the same time, Solana Labs has made available to developers a open source software kit. This kit aims to enable the development of Android applications revolving around the Solana ecosystem. For example, it includes a protocol that allows a Solana wallet to be connected to applications or sites. The solutions developed with this kit will be available on all Android smartphones on the market.
“Developers can now bring the power of Solana to the computers in our pockets”explains Raj Gokal, co-founder of Solana, in a press release.
Moreover, the technical sheet of the smartphone is very classic. There is a 6.67-inch 120Hz OLED screen, 512GB of internal storage and 12GB of RAM. The smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, the latest high-end chip from Qualcomm. The photo partition is ensured by a double sensor with a main lens of 50 megapixels. Autonomy is entrusted to a 4100mAh battery compatible with fast and wireless charging.

Release in the first quarter of 2023 around 1000 dollars
Smartphone pre-orders are already open. To pre-order the device, you must deposit a deposit of 100 dollarss through a Solana Wallet. The first people who pre-order the smartphone could receive a limited edition non-fungible token (NFT).
According to the start-up, the phone will go on sale in the first quarter of 2023. High-end oriented, the Saga will be marketed around 1000 dollars.
This is not the first smartphone aimed at cryptocurrency investors. In recent years, HTC has also launched several phones embedding a blockchain wallet, the Exodus. The device was solely focused on the custody of crypto-assets. Faced with the mixed success of the range, HTC has reoriented itself towards the metaverse. The Taiwanese brand will launch a smartphone tailored for virtual and augmented reality in a few days.
