Is Kanye West Warming Up To NFTs And The Metaverse? – Tech Tribune France

Rapper Kanye West, who when asked about not fungible Tokens (NFT) once said, “Don’t ask me to af**king NFT,” may be slowly revisiting the topic, at least in part, thanks to fellow rap star French Montana.

Montana’s comments came during an appearance at NFT Miami (April 1-3) promoting his latest album, Montega, which will feature an NFT version of 10,000 playable GameFi NFTs in conjunction with Radio Caca.

According to the Franco-Moroccan rapper, who has fully embraced crypto, interest and understanding of NFTs is a generational thing.

“You tell someone NFTs, their first response, ‘I live in the real world. I don’t live in the metaverse, I live in the universe. So it’s like, how can you even have a conversation with someone, you know. But when I talk to my little brothers and I talk to the young guys, they have more idea about it, my son and everyone like that. So I have to follow the new generation, ” he said.

Collaboration between Kanye and Montana

French Montana recently collaborated with West on his latest album 2which was only released on the STEM player, MP3 player and remix device created by West and Kano Computing, priced at $200.

Montana is now in talks to put his new album on STEM, and in his talks with West he made the case for NFTs and the Metaverse.

“So me and him [West] always going back and forth because he’s one of the people who talks about “the universe and not the metaverse”. So we go back and forth. Thanks to Kanye because he definitely supports the idea, he’s open-minded,” Montana said before adding, “And me and Radio Cocoa is this close to bringing the STEM reader to the metaverse.

Montana aims for the “biggest NFT album”

Plans for French Montana’s fifth studio album, Montega, are his most ambitious to date. Montana clearly has high hopes for the next release, which he says will combine music, NFTs, games, and the metaverse for the first time.

“I really want to make sure I have the biggest NFT album to come out this year,” he said.

Montega will be supported by a 10,000 strong NFT release called “2D Montana” which will include 2D playable game characters and metaverse integration. Radio Caca will also integrate Montega’s NFTs into its existing gamefi product, Metamon.

To further sweeten the deal, fans who purchase Montega will receive many other perks, including exclusive access to Montana through its Discord server.

Montana believes that if the album is the success he hopes it will encourage other great artists, like Kanye, to follow in his footsteps.

“I just feel like with this, I’m taking a leap of faith here and trying to start a new wave and trying to show my A-list friends and everyone who’s doing music that this wedding can happen, it can succeed,” Montana said.

While French Montana has become something of an NFT evangelist, he’s not the only rapper to dive headlong into NFTs. Snoop Dogg has been making waves in the industry, even going so far as to re-imagine himself as the superhero “Supercuzz” in a recent NFT collection.

Rappers have never been shy about being business savvy. If like Montana and Dogg demonstrate that they are shrewd operators in space, it won’t be long before skeptics like West follow them down the NFT rabbit hole.
