John Legend will create a platform for NFTs

Famous singer, songwriter and producer – John Legend – is to launch a non-fungible token (NFT) platform for musicians and artists. His partners in this initiative are Chris Lin – the man in charge of digital music service KKBOX, Kevin Lin – co-founder of Twitch, and Matt Cheng – founder of Cherubic Ventures.

The objective of “OurSong”

Grammy Award-winning John Legend has decided to venture into the non-fungible token (NFT) business. He clarified that he will create a platform thanks to partners and the platform will be called “OurSong”. OurSong will allow artists to monetize their work through digital collectibles. Legend, who will serve as the project’s Chief Impact Officer, hopes his new platform will empower up-and-coming musicians to express their creativity.

“It can be really daunting for an emerging artist who wants to share their art, their work with the world. A lot of people feel like they can’t do something that’s going to be worth that much money. Some of them come to make a living from their art as students,” said John Legend. He went on to explain the reason why he is ready to do so much for the music business. The music was his “first love and his first job”.

For the OurSong platform, the management team is already clearly known. It will be composed of John Legend himself, but also other personalities. For example, Chris Lin will be the general manager. The latter indicated that the platform will be easily accessible for all and that it will not require the use of cryptocurrency wallets.

NFTs, a trend for celebrities

Lately, NFTs have become very popular. They are a real global trend and several celebrities, athletes and musicians have entered the industry by creating their own platforms. This is the case of the emblematic quarterback of the NFL, Tom Brady.

In April 2021, the seven-time Super Bowl champion launched an NFT platform called Autograph. In his project, he brings together celebrities from various industries, including sports, pop culture, fashion and entertainment. Tiger Woods, Tony Hawk and Naomi Osaka have already joined the initiative.

A few months later, the F1 team – McLaren Racing – launched a non-fungible token (NFT) platform built on the popular blockchain Tezos. The company explained that ‘‘McLaren Racing Collective’ allows fans to “own a piece” of their favorite Formula 1 team.

Famous singer John Legend is ready to take his first steps into the world of NFTs. On this occasion, he will launch a platform that will be accessible to all creators of audio content. They will have the opportunity to promote their works and earn money in return.
