NFT: the city of Cannes is selling La Croisette at auction!

Cannes enters the metaverse. On June 21, the town hall is auctioning eleven emblematic places in the city in partnership with the auction house Artcurial.

You are not dreaming, the town hall of Cannes has decided in partnership with the company Pertimm to digitize and sell in the form of NFT (non-fungible token) ten emblematic places, some of which are world famous such as the Palais des Festivals and Congresses, the Croisette, but also the Old Port, Ile Sainte Maguerite and its Fort Royal, Malmaison, Le Suquet, Pointe Croisette and Palm Beach, the Underwater Ecomuseum, Forville Market and Port Canto.

All will be auctioned on June 21 by Artcurial with a starting price of 10,000 euros. An eleventh place, the Campus Georges-Mèliès, will be offered by lot to a resident of Cannes who will leave with an estimated fee of 10,000 euros on the day of the delivery of the NFT and perhaps several million within a short time.

In the metaverse, you can sell almost everything

A marketing operation for the municipality which wishes to increase its attractiveness and its visibility throughout the world and well beyond. Cannes is the first city to organize such a sale of its heritage.

A virtual heritage since the owner will leave with a unique and secure USB key with the certificate of ownership, a 3D model and the power to integrate his acquisition into a metaverse, one of those digital universes where the owner can enjoy and exploit his purchase. An operation that will make it possible to enhance the property and resell it with or without profit thereafter. It is up to him to build in the metaverse. To open a store in his name on the Croisette, to organize a festival on the Ile Saint Marguerite, fairs at the Palais des Festivals or at the Forville market.

Everything is possible as long as it does not harm the city which owns the places in “real life”. NFTs are authorized to carry the “Cannes” mark. The buyer signs a “smart contract” which contains the conditions of use of the virtual place to prevent a pornography fair from taking place at the Palais des Festivals, for example. The Pertimm company will be responsible for ensuring the good reputation of the virtual sites.

A virtual Cannes for a very real sale

If the object of your purchase is not tangible, the sale will be real. It takes place on June 21 at the Harbor Master’s Office of Port Canto, the auctions will be done on site or remotely (Internet, telephone) and will be carried and paid in euros, and not in cryptocurrencies.

Note 10% of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Cannes endowment fund for carrying out environmental actions carried out by Cannes associations, and “the use of the Cannes brand for the design of NFT commits the Pertimm company to donating royalties to the Town Hall of Cannes”, specifies the Town Hall.

This sale is a first, other town halls could do the same and propel the beautiful architecture of the planet into another dimension.
