For the 2022 edition of the Fête de la Musique, Qobuz, the high-quality French music platform, and the loudspeaker brand Voxline, are joining forces to offer all audiophiles and music lovers a unique musical experience with NFTs!
Although many people associate non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with digital images sold as blockchain-based assets, there are many other applicable categories. A rapidly growing ecosystem in the NFT industry is NFT music. At first glance, music NFTs may appear to be the blockchain alternative to buying songs from iTunes. However, when you purchase a song from iTunes, you are only purchasing the right to listen to that music. There is no ownership of assets on iTunes, only a license to listen to what you just paid for. On the other hand, musical NFTs allow anyone to listen to tracks, but also confer ownership of this file via an NFT, or even more, such as Qobuz’s marketing action with Voxline described below.
By February 2021, the artists had sold $2 million worth of NFT music on Catalog.
Since 2007, Qobuz has been the high-resolution music streaming and downloading platform giving access to unrivaled content of more than 80 million tracks in CD and Hi-Res quality and editorial content written by a team of experts. The two French music players who share the same values of excellence, innovate and come together to offer a unique sound experience, through the creation of NFT expérientiel. The aim is to provide music fans with unparalleled listening, combining the high resolution sound offered by the music platform with that of the very high fidelity wideband audio system. As of June 15, 21 NFT (Non Fungible Token) will be on sale at a price of 222 euros, providing access to a unique, very high quality listening experience; a real journey to the heart of the recording studio enabled by the Voxline auditorium, on June 25th.
Each of the 21 NFTs is unique, but gives access to the same privileges:
- For June 25, access for two people to listen to songs in the Voxline auditorium, followed by an evening on the rooftop of the loudspeaker manufacturer
- 1 year streaming subscription (Hi-Res and CD quality) to Qobuz (can be offered to a third party)
- A visual creation specially created by the French crypto-artist @jylem, precursor of video art and activist in the NFT community
- An option to purchase Voxline loudspeakers at 7,500 euros including tax (instead of 12,000 euros including tax)
This partnership with Voxline will allow music lovers to live a unique experience while supporting the artistic community. Through this initiative, Qobuz is strengthening its position as a pioneer in sound quality and at the forefront of audiophile discoveries. The quality of listening relies on all the links in its restitution chain. From the Qobuz source to the Voxline loudspeaker. The purchase of an NFT giving access to an unprecedented musical experience is a concrete application of blockchain technology in the service of creation.
The NFT Platform
For the operation, Qobuz and Voxline use the platform Kalart for internet art creators. Kalart uses Polygon, which is among the least energy-consuming blockchains. The goal at Kalart is to facilitate the use of NFTs, not everyone is comfortable with crypto-currencies. He therefore proposes to take care of all the complexity of the blockchain behind the scenes to make it accessible to everyone, which makes it possible to pay in euros and not in crypto.
The vision of the platform is interesting. For them, NFTs are just a technology, used in particular by art, or cryptoart to authenticate and certify digital work transactions. Creating on a computer does not preclude being an artist. The graphic tablet or the computer is only a medium, art and its interpretation belong to everyone!
