Whenever a major mobile game is launched around the world, its monetization is one of the first things that is scrutinized in depth. Quite simply because under their exterior of free to play titles, mobile games are often based on very attractive microtransactions, and capable of swallowing up crazy amounts of money from players.
However, with Warcraft Arclight Rumble, Blizzard ensures that its mobile game will stand out from its competitors on this point, and augurs real transparency vis-à-vis buyers. In a recent interview with GamerBraves, Developers Jeremy Collins and Andy Lim say there won’t be a lootbox or gatcha mechanism in the game. Also note that the developers sweep away the idea of matching NFTs to their game (so it’s clear).
A promise contradicted on the Playstore description?
The developers highlight the fact that the acquisition of new units will not be done through chance mechanisms, but the description of the game on the Google Playstore says otherwise
Perhaps here, these “randomly acquired items” rather refer to rewards acquired on a Battle Pass, or through the campaign (and not purchasable lootboxes). We can legitimately trust the developers when they dismiss the concept of loot boxes and gatcha.
During the interview conducted by us, Adam Kugler said the same thing: the shop is playing cards on the table. What is offered can be purchased directly by the player if he has the necessary resources. No chance on obtaining a desired unit in the shop.
“The store never sells ‘pieces’ of units. If you see Jaina in the store, you can buy her, and she’s yours. No puzzle pieces, no boosters…
The game is also 100% free to play, from start to finish.”
Adam Kugler, Associate Game Director
What will the store look like?
Ultimately, the in-game store will not use random unit packs, nor any kind of summons, common in gatcha mobile games, and which allocate units to you, again randomly, and with rates getting low for the best units.
In Warcraft Arclight Rumble, the shop will directly offer units, rare or not, to be acquired for hard coins. Certainly, the amounts required to obtain the most powerful heroes will probably be high, but at least the sums invested will guarantee your acquisition. No possible disappointment after shopping!
We can hypothesize that the Warcraft Arclight Rumble store will look like the “Deals of the day” section of the Clash Royale store : units that can be purchased directly, and not acquired haphazardly via chests.
Cleverly kept secret by Blizzard, the DNA of the new mobile game stamped Warcraft is finally revealed to the world. Described as a “tower offense” playable in PVE and PVP, Warcraft Arclight Rumble plays cards on the table; yes, it is a pure and hard mobile game. And yes, it looks like fun.
