NFT creators cash in on Johnny Depp and Amber Heard lawsuit – BeinCrypto

Clever non-fungible token (NFT) creators have monetized Johnny Depp’s victory in his defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard.

Johnny Depp emerged victorious from a real six-week court series, broadcast live around the world and followed by millions of spectators. His widespread media coverage, as well as the “memification” of the trial on social media platforms such as TikTokhave made this lawsuit almost impossible to avoid.

With the topic firmly embedded in the public consciousness, in addition to having captured the zeitgeist, it was inevitable that the crypto sphere would seize this opportunity and capitalize on it.

NFTs never fear truth

A number of NFT creators have sought to partner with Depp’s rising notoriety, but there’s also an NFT project backed by the actor himself. never fear truth is the actor’s first big foray into the world of art and non-fungible tokens.

The portraits created by the actor depict some of his friends and heroes, including Hunter S. Thompson and Heath Ledger. Although the collection was minted in January, these NFTs received increased interest during the trial. OpenSea metrics show a noticeable spike in activity, especially the day after the verdict day.

In a heartfelt gesture of charity, 25% of the proceeds from sales of these NFTs will be donated (not pledged) to Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital and, in honor of the late actor Heath Ledger, the Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Projects not directly related to Johnny Depp, however, feature far less charitable provisions.

Amber Turds

The scatalogically inclined NFT project Johnny Depp’s Amber Turds [turd signifie crotte en anglais] is a good illustration of how the Depp vs. Heard has fed memes to the craziest corners of the internet.

This NFT collection references the now-famous incident in which Heard allegedly soiled the marital bed with a sort of “farewell gift” to her husband.

In the project’s own words, the collection consists of “5,000 lying, profiteering, drug-addicted, wheezy, smelly, scabby, dusty Amber Turds that stink on the Ethereum blockchain.”

The collection also includes quotes from the trial as well as key items including a mega pint of wine and a makeup case.

So far, NFT Amber Turds have only been traded modestly, with the total volume of the free-mint token collection amounting to just over 55 ETH on OpenSea. That didn’t stop an ambitious holder from pricing his Amber Turd at 420 ETH.

There are also cryptocurrencies

Finally, the token Johnny Depp Inu proves that anything that can benefit the NFT industry can also benefit good old memecoin creators. Johnny Depp Inu was the subject of media coverage in the Daily Express from the UK but for now, this cryptocurrency remains a micro cap memecoin.
